Fabricating Objects Expanding and Changing Shape with Heat

English

ExpandFab is a fabrication method for creating objects that expand using foam materials. The printed objects change their shape and volume, which helps reduce printing time and transportation costs.

We investigated the basic principle governing the expansion rate and developed a material by mixing foam powder with an elastic adhesive, along with a fabrication method that uses it. A user designs the expanded object in our software and assigns the expansion areas on its surface.
